Cuba has begun commercial exports of its home produced Covid-19 vaccines. The three-dose Abdala vaccine is being exported to Vietnam and Venezuela.
The President announced the arrival of the vaccines in Vietnam on his Twitter feed last Sunday. The shipment included 900,000 doses purchased by Hanoi and 150,000 more donated by Cuba.
The President of Vietnam, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, visited Cuba last week: he toured the laboratory that produces the vaccine, and announced an agreement to buy at least 5 million doses.
The Center of Genetic Immunology and Biotechnology of Cuba also announced that initial expoprts of the Abdala shots were sent to Venezuela over the weekend. Cuba hopes to extend exports of its locally developed vaccines, and last week asked the World Health Organization to approve them.
