UK exports of salmon to the EU have fallen by nearly 20% during the first three months of this year, according to information from the Food and Drink Federation.
Export sales of fish of all typeshave fallen by almost 52%; Scottish salmon is very popular with European retailers and restaurants. Scotland accounts for 26% of all UK food and drink exports and amounting to £6.2bn a year. Much of that is salmon and whisky.
Seafood exports suffered particularly at the start of the year, due to new rules and delays at the ports, but restrictions on restaurants due to Covid-19 also played a big part.
