Indian tea exports to China and Iran have increased in spite of economic uncertainty due to Covid-19 and the stalemate between India and China on border issues. Chinese importers are paying good prices for Indian black tea and exportsto the country have already begun.
Iran has also started importing orthodox teas from last week and is paying higher price than of last year.
India had overtaken Sri Lanka in exports of tea to China by 2019, taking advantage of the rising demand for the Indian variety of black tea among Chinese millennials.
India had exported 13.45 million kg of teas to China, compared with Sri Lanka, which had always been the leader in exports to China, exporting 10 million kgs to the country.
