In spite of the import tariffs imposed on China by the USA, exports from the United States have continued to increase. Between September 2018 and September 2019, clothing exports have increased 2.7% to 5.3 billion dollars.
Sports fashion exports grew by 9%, according to United States Census data. Sewing machines experienced a slight export reduction of 0.8%. Cotton fiber has reduced exports by 1.4% compared with September 2018.
Cotton was the first fibre of the fashion industry affected by the trade war. China would be able to levy 25% import tariffs in the event that the United States proceeded to raise import tariffs for 106 items from China. Raw cotton has reduced its exports by 6.3% in one year.
US exports of leather goods and other animal origin fibres also fell by 15.8%.
