Exports from and imports to the UK hit a record high in March.  Export growth was mainly due to sales of pharmaceuticals and cars to non EU countries but also to Germany. However, there was a decline in manufacturing exports in April, mainly caused by slow demand from the euro zone.

Increases in  import values were driven by higher imports of oil. Import prices of goods rose by 1.2pc on the back of higher oil prices.
