From 1 July it will be illegal to import seed potatoes into the UK from the EU. This is a reciprocal ban, as the EU had already banned imports from the UK at the end of the Brexit transition period on 31 December 2020.
The EU had refused to recognise that the regulations in the UK applied to seed production were ‘equivalent’ to those of the EU, so Uk exports had to cease.
