A freight train de-railed at high speed yesterday on the Highlands main line. It appeared to lose braking power on its descent from Inverness, and fell into a gully by Carrbridge station. The train was pulling twelve freight containers, ten of which also de-railed, whilst two of them came to a gradual stop on the line. The driver and engineer, although shocked, walked away unharmed. The service is now being covered by an emergency bus service, so will be unlikely to carry freight for a few days, as weather conditions remain unpredictable.
