The Department for Transport has issued statistics showing that the UK’s international trade has declined in the first half of 2009 by 11% compared with last year.  The ports of Grimbsy and Immingham were the busiest, even though the volume of freight handled was 20% down over last year.  Imports suffered the worst, with volumes reducing by about 12%, while exports were 8.4% down.
