The Rail Freight Group has expressed fears that spending cuts will affect the government commitment to shift freight from road to rail.  However, this was denied at a recent meeting of the RFG, where the head of a freight and logistics group at the Dft said that the government has been convinced that they need to do something about reducing the share of road freight, as it would be key in reducing carbon emissions.  Industry spokesmen said that politicians had to develop a long term view, as major infrastructure changes could not be made in four or five years.
