Freight carrying airlines have underestimated the magnitude of the fall in volumes, which this year is estimated to be in the region of 13%.  International imports and exports have declined overall, partly due to the contraction of the motor industry and consequent reduction in the shipping of components. The International Air Transport Association’s Director General thinks that the decline in freight may have bottomed, as there was a slight improvement in March, but no-one knows when the market will recover.
