China is planning a bullet train which will transport passengers and freight from China to Europe at speeds of more than 250 km per hour.  This may prove to be an attractive alternative to air freight for transporting cargo from component suppliers in China to manufacturing sites in Europe.  The train should reduce the transit time from Beijing to Shanghai from 10 to four hours.  The planned rail development could have the potential to change the way goods are sourced from China, and the cost saving would be considerable.  Meanwhile air freight is the only option for rapid freight movements from China to Europe.
