Ocean carriers are redeploying substantial tonnage on the Asia to South America east coast trade lane, following an earlier shift of vessels towards Asia–Europe routes to meet an accelerated peak season.
Israeli container line ZIM has announced the launch of a new Asia–South America loop, capitalising on the buoyant freight rates currently observed on the trade. The move reflects renewed carrier confidence in the region and a strategic response to shifting global demand patterns.
With Asia–Europe capacity tightening earlier than usual this year, operators had temporarily diverted tonnage away from South American services. However, robust demand and improving yields on the Asia–South America corridor have prompted a swift reinjection of vessel capacity.
For shippers and importers trading between Asia and South America, the introduction of additional services is expected to enhance schedule reliability, expand routing options and support smoother cargo flows during a period of heightened market activity.
