The United States has announced a 15% tariff on Norwegian seafood imports, marking a significant shift in transatlantic trade policy. This development could substantially impact freight forwarding operations between Norway and the US market.

Norwegian seafood exporters, who have traditionally enjoyed strong trade relations with American importers, now face increased costs that may affect supply chain dynamics. The United States represents a notable portion of Norway’s export market, accounting for 3.5% of the country’s total exports in 2024, according to Statistics Norway.

The seafood sector, particularly salmon exports, forms a crucial component of Norway’s economy. These tariffs could lead to revised shipping schedules, consolidated cargo arrangements, and enhanced cold chain logistics requirements as businesses adapt to the new trade landscape.
