Raising India’s share in the exports of 20 agricultural products excluding rice and wheat to 10% from the current 2.2% is the goal of the government.

Almost 46% of India’s workforce is engaged in agriculture, but it has to be made more remunerative.

There is an opportunity for Indian exports in the projected global food demand over the next few decades. Climate stress is beginning to affect agricultural productivity. India must take advantage of this, and outlining an export target sets the tone for this.
