Japan’s fruit imports reached a total 897,458 tonnes of fresh fruit during the first six months of 2020, an increase of 3 per cent from the same period in 2019.

AS the largest volume of fresh fruit imported into the country during the first six months over the last five years, it is particularly significant because of the global Covid-19 pandemic, when many trade volumes have fallen.

Bananas were the biggest performers of all imported fruit categories contributing 60.3 per cent market share of all fruit imports.
