Wine cellars and traders in South Africa imported more than 40 million litres of wine during the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 seasons to compensate for shortages resulting caused by the drought in the Western Cape.
Usually South Africa’s wine imports are low, mainly consisting of approx. 15 million litres of must and concentrate sweetening of wine.
During the recent drought shortages forced some cellars and wine traders to import from other countries, mainly Argentina and Spain.
