According to a recent report, high prices in airfreight and lack of capacity is driving freight forwarders to experiment with other transport modes. Last year, there was a lack of airfreight capacity combined with high prices in the peak season, which has led customers to look for cheaper methods of moving their freight.
Less-than-container-load shipping can be an attractive option; airfreight is difficult to sell if not readily available and shippers may prefer seafreight if possible.
Several freight forwarders say that Asia-Europe rail freight services and sea-air operations are increasing in popularity for the American and African continents.
