In 2018, 105 tons of saffron were exported from Iran, representing a 40 percent increase compared with last year.
The chairman of the National Saffron Council of Iran said that saffron will be harvested until December. Exports are expected to grow by 50-60 percent by the end of 2018.
In the first six months, 105 tons of saffron worth $ 145 million were exported.
Iran is the first country in the world to have a share of 44 percent of the export market. Spain was the top saffron importer with a share of 23 percent of the import market. Spain packs saffron imports from Iran, and exports the products under a Spanish brand name.
Azerbaijan imports from neighbouring Iran, the largest saffron producer in the world, but also grows small amounts.
