In the first 8 months of this year, 2,917,449 tons of fruits, vegetables, and legumes were imported or exported through ports in Spain. This is 25.5% more than in the same period of the previous year. These figures show that Spain, due to its geographical location, and because it is the leading export country in Europe, is becoming the gateway for imports of fruit from third countries.
The existence of an extensive network of refrigeration connections in the port terminals, as well as cold storage companies both in ports and in the logistics areas associated with them, helps the sector to anticipate the future with optimism.
