After a pilot scheme in Shanghai last year, the Chines government decided to introduce VAT on transport and some other service sectors from 1 August. The pilot was extended to another eleven regions, including Beijing, Tianjin and Shenzhen. The tax will replace the previous business tax, and is intended to reduce the overall tax burden on businesses.
