Freight charges payable in China are now subject to a 6 percent VAT rate, but shipping companies are asking for clarification before accepting the change.  Several shipping firms have issued guidance, and the British International Freight Association announced on 2 August that several carriers, including Evergreen, Maersk and MCC that they intend to retain existing invoice arrangements until the authorities have clarified certain matters.
