Last Thursday two freight ships collided in the North Sea, with one of them sinking with loss of life.  The sinking ship was a car carrier from Zeebrugge  going to Kotka in Finland.  It collided with a container ship from Scotland on its way to Antwerp, but the reasons for the collision are so far unknown.  The accident happened in a shipping lane  near Rotterdam which is one of the busiest in the North Sea.
