The USA is becoming one of the lowest-cost producters in the developed world, which means – according to some commentators – that exports are set to increase. It is expected that by 2015 the USA will have an export cost advantage of 25% over Germany, Italy, France, the UK and Japan. This means that the USA could capture 2 to 4 percent of exports from European countries, and 3 to 7 percent from Japan by the end of the decade.
This will put new pressures on freight forwarders to sustain velocity, avoid disruption and mitigate risk.
