A company in the North East of England would usually export container loads of second-hand clothes, bric-a-brac etc to Latvia for sale in Eastern Europe.

New regulations now in force after the UK exit from the EU mean that the main exporter – which usually ships five container loads by sea to Latvia – is unable to get the goods cleared for distribution.  One container is stuck in the port of Latvia, presumably due to incorrect customs procedures.

England is the biggest exporter of second-hand items to Eastern Europe, and a proportion of the proceeds are donated to charity.
