Ten Vietnamese seafood companies are currently exporting products to Russia, according to a report by the Export Department.
However, the Russian trade representative in Vietnam said the number of Vietnamese businesses entering the Russian market has increased on a daily basis since tensions between Moscow and the EU escalated.
He said that 26 Vietnamese businesses are doing business with Russian partners, citing the “latest figures.”
In mid-August, Russia’s Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service nullified an import suspension on seafood exported by seven Vietnamese firms. Russia had previously suspended seafood imports from Vietnam as the shipments did not meet its food safety standards.
A free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Customs Union, a trade bloc including Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia, is expected to be signed by year-end.
