Russia is enacting measures to import more agricultural products from Vietnam due to sanctions imposed by the West over Moscow’s involvement in the Ukraine crisis.
The increase in imports is also meant to boost trade ties between the two countries, Russia’s chief trade representative in Vietnam, Maxim Golikov, told delegates in Hanoi.
Russia has a demand for Vietnam tomatoes, potatoes, apples, vegetables, and fruits, as well as shrimps and catfish filets, Golikov told the meeting, hosted by the Export Department, where Russian trade representatives disclosed plans to boost imports from Vietnamese businesses.
Nguyen Binh Giang, head of the Vietnamese export department, said that local businesses face challenges in selling goods to Russia.
The distance between the two countries is great, while taxes are high and the technical barriers “are even stricter than those demanded by the EU,” Giang elaborated.
