Three internet portals are being developed in the Netherlands which will allow shippers to book air freight direct with carriers, possibly from next spring.  Shippers believe that this will save them money by by-passing the freight forwarder, but this may not be the case.  Forwarders can often obtain better rates from the airlines because of the volume of traffic which they provide; shippers should also remember that they will have additional tasks to perform such as delivering to the airline, checking flight status details and making sure that goods adhere to the dangerous goods regulations.
