Kenya’s Export Promotion Council wishes to expand the scope of export products to Egypt to include art and entertainment, cut flowers and textiles.

“We need to reduce the high dependency on imports by exporting more than what we currently do to include arts, cultural heritage and entertainment. It will also involve change of paradigm to encourage consumption of our products,” Export Promotion Council chairman Jaswinder Bedi said during a meeting to update on Kenya’s preparations for the Intra Africa Trade Fair (IATF).

After the East African Community and European Union, Egypt is one of the Kenya’s largest export markets, however the balance of trade is in Egypt’s favour.

Kenya’s imports from Egypt increased by nine per cent between January and July 2018, compared to the same period in 2017. Exports to Egypt increased by 21.9 per cent under the period in review.
