MEPs have just voted in favour of a draft Eurovignette for lorries, which would allow member states to charge lorries at peak periods on congested roads and possibly also for the amount of noise and air pollution which they produce. The British International Freight Association and the European Association of Freight Forwarders have both expressed the opinion that this demonstrates the bureaucrats lack of understanding of the freight transport and logistics industry.  Road freight users already try to use the least congested route to avoid delays and fuel-costly stop-start conditions – charging them to do so will not solve the problem.
