Exports from Japan rose by 9.5 per cent in January, compared with the previous year.   This is lower than the expected 12.6 per cent.

Imports increased by 25 percent, partly caused by the weak yen.  With the big increase of imports over exports, the country recorded a record monthly trade gap.
