UK importers, exporters and freight forwarders are suffering losses due the the computerized Customs facility’s unreliability.  Disruptions to the system are causing cargo to miss flights and ship departures. HMRC confirmed that Chief was not available to six trade community providers on Wednesday for about an hour.  This follows breakdowns earlier this year.  Freight forwarders are concerned that the system is holding up imports and exports, and increasing costs by causing driver demurrage.
