An industry research company has estimated that there will be a shortage of container ships by 2012, due to shipping companies and carriers cancelling orders for new builds.  In a shipping report called "Vital Signs’, the company found that there would be a 10% increase in the global shipping fleet next year, falling to 6% growth in 2012.  This means that there may be a global shipping capacity shortage in 2012, as freight volumes worldwide have recovered more quickly than expected.
