Strikes by transport workers in South Africa are delaying freight which is on its way in preparation for the World Cup. Shipping of equipment for broadcasting, hospitality and media centres is being delayed by the strikes, which have been going on for eight days. The South African Football Association thinks it unlikely that the strikes will affect the tournament itself, but talks have currently broken down between the unions and the Port and Rail operator.
There are fears that exports of metals and foodstuffs will be badly affected.
