In spite of strenuous lobbying by the Freight Transport Association, the Government went ahead with is intended fuel duty increase last week.  The Association argues that logistics providers are at the forefront of emissions reduction, by using more fuel-efficient driving methods and newer, more efficient vehicles.  Therefore they should not be penalised by a fuel duty increase apparently designed to discourage the use of the internal combustion engine. In fact they are asking the Government and the Opposition to help the logistics and transport industry by charging a lower rate of fuel duty for commercial vehicles.
