At the recent Global Liner Shipping conference in London, one of the speakers explained how major forwarders are increasing their market share of the ocean freight market at the expense of the shipping lines. Over the last four years, the container shipping companies have grown their market share by 4.3%, while freight forwarders have grown their market share by 18.8%. This shows that logistics providers will play an important role in the future development of the ocean freight market, as they offer benefits both to shippers and carriers by controlling all the elements of the supply chain.
