China has already begun its fiscal stimulation plans, and is devoting hundreds of billions of dollars to improving roads, railways and other projects. One of the main projects is a network of freight rail lines in Shanxi province in north-central China; there will also be extensive development of high-speed passenger lines. This expenditure will provide a world-class infrastructure for moving goods and people across huge distances; this will provide great opportunities for logistics and freight transport providers, and should indirectly help to stimulate world trade and shipping volumes, and improve China’s competitiveness in relation to its Asian neighbours.
