One of the main targets is the cigarette industry, as the product is easy to sell on the black market. Freight crime was a ‘hidden problem’ until recently, when a national intelligence unit called TruckPol was set up. Organised crime groups target specific loads; freight crime is rarely opportunistic, and freight transport companies need to be vigilant about security.
