The head of the largest shipping company in India, thinks the New Year will pose difficulties for the industry.  In a recent interview, he said that the excess supply of tonnage will put pressure on freight rates.  New ships will continue to be delivered in 2011, but after that delivery of new ships will decline.  There should be growth in the world economy, as the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) are growing quickly and this will drive activity in international freight movements. However, freight rates are always under pressure which means that Indian shipping lines face reducing margins.
