Georgia exported 890 tons of figs in July-August 2022. In 2020 the country exported 930 tons. Export prices jumped 40% from $1.00/kg in 2021 to a record high of $1.40/kg in 2022.
Rising export prices can be good news and bad news in the current context of high energy prices, the war in Ukraine and global economic instability.
Despite the sudden jump in fig prices, export volumes have remained strong. The rise in prices has certainly led to higher revenues, but much of the rise in prices is due to higher production and transport costs, which limits the growth of profits.
