A few New Zealand food businesses have suspended exports destined for China – after positive Covid-19 cases were detected amongst staff.
Although catching the coronavirus from food is highly unlikely, China’s Covid-19 zero policy means that food producers who experience positive cases at their sites are expected to halt export shipments to the country.
A 2021 briefing giving guidance to exporters said China was applying these measures to all cold chain food imports including fruit, vegetables and meat.
