Parliamentary parties in Finland are divided on whether the country should relax its arms exports ban to Ukraine.
The Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s (SDP) government programme states: “Finland will not export defence material to countries that are engaged in war or are violating human rights.”
The Finns Party’s recently-elected chair of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee said he hoped for an extensive discussion of the arms export policy. He said an arms trade ban which affects the victim of an attack does not encourage peacemaking but actually provides practical support for the attacker.
