Exports from China rose in July, as economic activity in the rest of the world recovered. Export shipments to the U.S. jumped, but imports unexpectedly contracted because of falling commodity prices and the ongoing fragility of China’s own recovery.
Exports rose 7.2% in dollar terms in July from the previous year, while imports fell 1.4%, the customs administration said. Economists had forecast that exports would fall by 0.6% while imports would increase by 0.9%.
