A major shipping line is opening a China-to-Turkey rail freight service, with automotive and technology a particular target for the operators.

Air freight prices from China to Europe are continuing to rise and transporting goods by railfreight is becoming more popular.
The China Railway Group reported that in the first quarter of 2020, the number of freight trains travelling from or to China increased by 15% and 18% respectively.

The new service, running once a week from Xi’an in China to the port of Izmir in Turkey, is part of the Intercontinental Rail (ICR) network.
