In October it was announced that a selection of agricultural products including Irish butter, cheese and pork were to be subjected to US import tariffs, in direct retaliation for EU aircraft subsidies for Airbus UK.

Irish whiskey from Northern Ireland and the Republic was originally made exempt from the new import tariffs.

The World Trade Organisation reported last week that Europe has not complied with the obligations to remove the Airbus subsidies.

The office of the US Trade Representative is now considering an increase in the import tariff rates plus the introduction of additional tariffs for other EU products.
