Beef from the USA which was once avoided by consumers who feared mad cow disease, now represents half of total beef imports to South Korea.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, 209,034 tons of US beef were imported in the first ten months of the year. That’s a 7.9 percent over last year. That is the largest quantity of US beef imported in the first 10 months of a year since 2003, when the government of Korea limited the import of US beef.

US beef now represents 50 percent of the 415,112 tons of beef imports.
