China has now authorized another 25 Brazilian meat plants to export to China.
The total of Brazilian meat plants able to export to China has now increased to 89. Of the 25 plants newly certified, 17 are beef producers, six are poultry producers, one is a pork producer and one a donkey meat producer.
China is undergoing an outbreak of African Swine Fever, which some analysts say may reduce the country’s pig herd by up to 30pc.
The Agriculture Minister Tereza Cristina Dias of Brazil visited China and other east Asian countries in May, trying to open markets for Brazilian products. Brazil is one of world’s biggest protein exporters.
So far this year, China has increased imports of Brazilian pork by 31pc to 133,500metric tonnes (t) to make up for China’s reduced herd.
