Malaysia denied that its ban on sea sand export is designed to stop Singapore from expanding its land mass. The Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Xavier Jayakumar said that river sand is still being exported to its neighbour.
He said that Malaysia would not lose out financially with the ban in place, as the revenue from sea sand exports is “very, very small”.
