South Korean exports fell during early February; export shipments of semiconductors fell drastically.

Exports in total fell 12 per cent during the first 20 days of the month. Exports to China fell 14 per cent, according to data released by Korea Customs Service. Total exports of semiconductors dropped by 27 per cent.

Some of the factors affecting global trade, and therefore South Korea’s exports are the US-China trade war, China’s cooling economy and a slowing of the global technology cycle. On Wednesday Japan reported the first back-to-back fall in exports in more than two years; exports to China dropped 17 per cent.
