China only opened its import market to American beef last year and this new export market may now be lost to the UK and France because of high Chinese tariffs.
Some US beef exports are almost up to 50 percent, to the market could be damaged.
Minnesota for example also exports a wide variety of goods–even consumer items–to China, many of which will be impacted by import tariffs now.
Minnesota International trade representative said soybeans and dairy exports, like beef and pork, will be especially affected.
“We export to China everything affected by these new tariffs,” he said. “China is now one of our largest dairy export markets.”
