Exports of spices and spice products from India have touched an all-time high during 2016-17, said the Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently.
Spices exports from the country have touched Rs. 17665 crore in the year, compared with Rs 16238 crore in 2015-16. India’s spice exports reached 947790 tons in volume.
The minister added that the government does not fix specific targets for the export of spices, as the production and export of spices are dependent upon various environmental factors.
She announced that the Spices Board is implementing the “Export Oriented Production, Export Development & Promotion of Spices” Scheme which will provide assistance to cultivators of cardamom for production of quality planting materials, replanting of old and uneconomic gardens, new planting, irrigation development programme, improved curing facilities, farm mechanization, etc. to boost production.
